i was a sari
In the vibrant heart of Mumbai, I was a Sari is rewriting the narrative of fashion and waste — one sari at a time. Founded on the simple yet powerful idea of circularity, this social enterprise transforms pre-loved saris into contemporary, handcrafted pieces — giving both the textiles and the women who make them a beautiful new beginning.
At ZAZI, we partnered with I was a Sari to co-create a collection of vibrant summer pieces — each one-of-a-kind, sewn from upcycled saris that once carried stories of celebration, tradition, and femininity. Now, reimagined into flowing silhouettes and joyful prints, they continue their journey in the hands (and wardrobes) of women around the world.
Beyond the garments, I was a Sari is a movement for empowerment. The initiative trains and employs women from under-resourced communities, offering not only a livelihood but also access to education, financial literacy, and independence. Every piece is sewn with skill, pride, and the spirit of transformation — both personal and environmental.
Together, ZAZI and I was a Sari celebrate fashion as a force for good — where beauty is not only seen, but deeply felt.
