The Anura Dress (अनुरा) – Derived from “anurāga”, meaning love and deep devotion.

The Anura dress is a true heirloom piece. Cut in a flowing silhouette, it features an elegant lace-up neckline adorned with tasselled ties and delicate beading. The bodice is beautifully hand-embroidered using zardozi, a traditional Indian technique known for its intricate gold threadwork — adding a touch of regal artistry to every stitch.

Scattered with small embroidered symbols across the skirt, the entire piece feels like a constellation come to life. Made in small batches by Kumbaya.

ARTISANAL NOTE

In 1994, Nivedita Banerji started Kumbaya as a stitching centre in a remote village in Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh. Today, over 100 women from marginalised communities work in Kumbaya Producer Company Ltd, where employment is guaranteed for 300 days a year.

Banerji says nothing is considered waste at Kumbaya, with leftover waste being reused to make another garment besides creating sustainable fabrics. “We have always re-used dead stock discarded by industrial fabric units and bought hand-woven and other artisanal cotton fabric made by skilled craftspeople across the country. I want to make Kumbaya work more on circular fashion and design,” she adds.

This handwoven fabric feels smooth on the skin and falls softly on the body.
Due to the hand dyed and handwoven nature of the fabric, there might be color and motif variations making each piece one of a kind.
Protect from heavy rain or heat. Should it become wet, we advise to air dry.
Washing by hand is advised to maintain quality of thread and colour.
