why we do this

ZAZI has grown faster over the past few years than we ever dared to dream. This means we’re now able to place larger production orders with our artisan communities, but it also means we need to pre-finance these productions months before the collection is sold.

Instead of financing this growth through a traditional investor, we want to try something different: building it together with the community that has grown alongside ZAZI.

PRICE BREAKDOWN

Every penny that you contribute is split roughly like this:

  • 10% goes directly to purchasing fabrics and realising its creation. The wool, cotton, vintage textiles, they are all sourced responsibly form the regions where our artisans work.
  • 15% goes directly into the hands of the artisan communities themselves: fair wages for the weaving, spinning, dying, embroidery, and tailoring that turns raw textile into a true piece of art.
  • 50% covers what it costs to run ZAZI as an organization and get each piece safely from a village atelier to your doorstep, the team, overheads, logistics.
  • 25% goes to taxes, customs and import duties.

meet the makers

One of our most inspiring partners in this mission is Artijaan, an initiative dedicated to preserving Afghanistan’s rich artisanal heritage while providing sustainable income for its craftspeople. Operating out of their Kabul workshop, Artijaan employs over 40 local women and has empowered more than 3,000 individuals nationwide over the past five years—offering vital support in a country where traditional craftsmanship faces ongoing political and economic challenges. By bridging the gap between these talented makers and the global market, Artijaan helps ensure that centuries-old techniques—ranging from intricate embroidery and jewelry-making to glassblowing and carpet weaving—continue to thrive. Their approach goes beyond commerce; it is about cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and resilience.
